Sucks to be them!

Imagine this, Aeros fans.

It's the last day of the regular season, and the Aeros are one point ahead of the Milwaukee Admirals for the West division lead. Win their last game at Quad City and they are the No. 1 seed. But because the two teams below them are just two point behinds and own the tie breakers in wins, a loss could be very costly.

At the iWireless Center that night against the Flames -- a team that with a win could leapfrog the No. 4 team in the North Division -- the Aeros race out to a 4-1 lead after two periods.

And in Milwaukee, the Admirals are down by two, 3-1, with less than five minutes to play against fourth-seeded Rockford. Either way, it looks like the Aeros are getting that No. 1 seed and the division title.

But wait, Quad City scores four times in the third (against Anton Khudobin) and loses the game. Whew, at least the Admirals are still ahead by one with five seconds left in the game. But Oh freaking no! Ryan Jones one-times a shot by Corey Crawford with .01 seconds left to tie things up at the Bradley Center. Milwaukee then goes on to win the game in overtime and gets the division title and the No 1 seed!

And instead of having home ice advantage, the Aeros fall to third and have to play Peoria (who easily beat the Chicago Wolves that same night) in a best of seven series that starts on the road -- a place where the Aeros were below .500 all year long!

Wouldn't that suck?

Hard?

Guess what?

That happened to the Houston Rockets last night ...

It's all about perspective.

The Aeros died slowly this year. The Rockets, however, went from Western Conference contender to a team that will lose in the first round again because they lost home court advantage in a matter of four hours.
