View from the Press Box - Game 5

Historically -- and I will have all the numbers on this later -- the Aeros have had problems closing teams out when they have a chance to eliminate them from the playoffs.

Saturday, two REALLY bad turnovers (one by Scandella, and one by Justin Falk) cost the Aeros a chance to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. There is no way to know for sure, but I think that is a lead that holds up against an Admirals team that maybe got its groove back at Toyota Center.

Anton will be fine and will be back in net Monday. He can't be totally blamed for the first two goals, and those really were the backbreakers.

My three stars of the game are Bryan Smolinski (who did exactly what you are supposed to do when you get chances like he got in the first period), Corey Locke (two goals) and MacIntyre (28 saves). That is how the Aeros media team had it, so we're golden.

This series is going seven games, as the Aeros are very poor historically in Game 6s and they are already 0-1 this year. But in said Game 7s, the Aeros have only lost once, and that was against the Manitoba Moose in 2001.

The Aeros lost, and really had a chance to win this game because their PP is so deadly and two of the four MKE goals were on horrible turnovers.

It's not the end of the world, but it might be if they don't win Monday.

Now, I have heard about 'soft ice' as a reason for bad playing.
However, last night this did not seem to affect the Admirals' skating, while the Aeros appeared to fall a lot.
Khudobin may have had a bad 'hair day' and needed some rest up after 648 minutes play and facing 292 shots up to that night.
But in the 2. period it seemed the defense fell (apart that is).
Otherwise it was a hard physical game against a bunch of bigger and taller guys.
Lots of turnovers, lots of missed chances to move away from the Aeros side.
No complaints re officiating, that I could see.
Thanks, Fred for this crop of photos..always amazed how you work getting these shots.
