Random Stats

As the Aeros fly back from Winterpeg today, here are some random stats regarding the Aeros are their sojourn though the 2009 playoffs. This team has more heart and "no-quit" than any I have ever covered, and no matter what happens this week, they go down as my favorite *ever* to cover.

If they win two or even all three at home, this will truly be a special team.

* The Aeros have now made it to the conference finals round six times in franchise history. 2009 marked the first year ever they lost Game 1.

* The team has never, until now, been down 0-2 in a West finals tournament.

* Two times, the team has won Game 3, in Chicago in the '99 finals and then again at home against Grand Rapids in 2003.

* All time, the Aeros are 6-9 at home during the West finals, but they have won three of five overall.

* The Moose have won NINE straight playoff games. Their last loss was on April 19 against Toronto. In fact, the Moose have not allowed more than two goals in a game since April 15.

* The Aeros are 11-0 in the playoffs when leading after one or two periods. The Moose are 11-0 in such situations.

* The Aeros are now 0-7 in the playoffs when trailing after one period.

Here is a short recap of all the Aeros trips to West Finals:

'97 vs. Long Beach, L (1-4). Won Game 1; 1-2 at home.
'99 vs. Chicago, W (4-3). Won Games 1,3,4,7; 2-2 at home.
'00 vs. Chicago, L (4-2). Won Games 1,2; 0-3 at home.
'02 vs. Chicago, L (4-1). Won Game 1; 1-1 at home.
'03 vs. Gr. Rapids, W (4-3). Won Games 1,3,4,7; 2-1 at home.
'09 vs. Manitoba, trail (0-2). No wins yet. Home for three this week.

For what it's worth ... this list COULD be a lot longer.
In 1998, the Aeros were upset by Milwaukee in the first round. That team was AS good, and better defensively than the 1999 Turner Cup team. In 2001, the Aeros had a 3-1 lead against the Moose and had home ice advantage. Ken Wregget then went nuts, and the team imploded on itself with internal issues. The Moose won three straight, including Games 6 and 7 at Compaq Center.
