There are so many reasons the Aeros won't win Game 7 they just might do do it.

I am eternally pessimistic when it comes to this hockey team.
Long ago was the time when I tried to figure it out and long ago was the time when I had any sense of what would come or go from one game to the next.

But what is for sure these days is the Aeros have so many things stacked against them ahead of their Game 7 Wednesday night, they just might get it done.

Injuries are staring to pile up. First it was the two goalies. Then it was Schultz and the Albers. The latest soap opera features the Kolanos injury in Game 6. (UPDATE - Kolanos' has a lower body injury and should be able to go tonight in Milwaukee.)

Add to that the goaltending issues. What a difference a week makes, eh? Thursday night all was giddy and bring as the Toyota Center faithful sang to Anton at center ice. Now, the guy some of the Aeros, including Benoit Pouliot, called their MVP of the playoffs has been pulled in two straight games.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to be Kevin Constantine right about now. He has to choose between a guy that can't finish a 60-minute hockey game and a rusty former No. 1 that allowed FIVE goals when he was supposed to be the guy to swing the momentum.

Ouch.

Milwaukee is relatively healthy and will be playing its 11th game of the playoffs. The Aeros have played 13 already and only had two days off between series. Milwaukee had nine, and it looks like (as someone pointed out on this blog earlier) that rest is starting to benefit the hosts.

I can't think of one reason why the Aeros might pull this thing out other than they might do it only because it does not make sense. They have won games they weren't supposed to and they pulled out that Game 7 win over Peoria in what seemed now like eons ago.

I publicly picked the Admirals to win this series in 7 games, and I am sticking to that. I have them winning Game 7 by a score of 3-1.

Here are some leftover quotes to get you through tomorrow when T3I's very own John Royal will be in Milwaukee covering Game 7. Now when you get to the end of these quotes, you tell me if this sounds like a team that thinks it can win tomorrow night.

AEROS HEAD COACH KEVIN CONSTANTINE:

Were you surprised at being blown out in Game 6?

"(Defensively) We thought we had at least some areas we felt we could be better in from Game 5 to Game 6. The scoreboard would indicate we got worse, not better. We'll have to go back to the drawing board, watch some video and see if we can work something out."

Can you win in Milwaukee?

"That is why it is called a seven-game series. One team has to win four and one of our little themes in this playoffs has been to keep going until one of the teams has won four. And then we'll move on. We'll keep following that credo and live to play Game 7 and see what happens."

Seems like the Admirals just keep getting better ... Your thoughts?

"Milwaukee's been pretty good. We've won three, but I think they have shown why they are the division champs. They've been pretty good in all the games except the “rust game” in Game 1. It's going to take a good game by us to beat them."

AEROS FORWARD COREY LOCKE:

I guess you are not surprised at Milwaukee's resurgence. Are they that good?

"We know they are a good team. We knew they were going to come out when they got their backs against the wall and they were going to come even harder. We haven't matched it. There's a reason why they're the best team in our division. We just haven't responded in the last few games."

"There's a reason why they finished 20 points ahead of us in the standings. They're a good team so we'll just leave it at that."

Do you think it might be time to change the lines up a bit?

"I don't think either team is going to change anything at all. What's going to come down in Game 7 is who wants it more ... who sticks to their game plan and details will win the hockey game. "

Bounding back, seems to be what the Aeros are so d... good at.
Now we have just have to wait.

Either off with the beards or on with the show to Manitoba.

As a reporter, Andrew, sometimes you write things that you know people won't like... just so you get some attention.
This may or may not be the case.
Being a FAN is a little different. It means you support your team...no matter what. You hope and wish for the best outcome.
Can you show a little support ?
I guess not.
Go Aeros !!! True fans stand beside you.. because we BELIEVE there is more life left in the Aeros and more hockey to be played here in Houston !!!
GO AEROS !!!

That is a fair comment, and I won't back away from it. I do write things to stir the pot, but I don't make things up to support my beliefs.

I freely admit that I have been very pessimistic about this team, mostly this year due to its lack of consistency.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Tom Lynn and Kevin Constantine. When you look around the league and see the disarray of other franchises, Aeros fans are quite lucky (by and large) to have what they have.

Also, I wrote this to see what the readers think. If I am wrong about this Game 7 deal ... by all means, you have the floor. Take it.

Looks like I stirred your pot.
To me, Aeros hockey gets little to no press. When what little press the Aeros get is negative, especially given the season we've had, it stirs my pot.
Supporting the Aeros... no matter what !!!

GO AEROS !! BOMB THEIR BOAT !!

Hey guys, Anon IS right.
GO AEROS!
As fans we have the (sometimes sad)
duty to 'stand by our boyz' ;) :) :D

And yes, I agree wholeheartedly that all media coverage of AEROS is pitiful and sparse.
We (better half and I) have written resp. emailed the media (TV and paper) to point this out repeatedly.
Some letters are going back several years to 1999 when I recall one from a friend of ours.

Media coverage is huge re Rockets, Astros, Dynamos, Collegiate and High School sports BUT infinitesimal re icehockey.

Well, they did show the 'Bring your Dog night' at the rink, which was a first on TV, I saw of Aeros mention in a long while, on humanitarian grounds no doubt! Puppies are sooooo cute, eh.

Hey Anonymous - Andrew is being a journalist here, not a fan. There is a difference.

My prediction? Ads 5, Aeros 1.

As a fan, I hate it, but I try not to let "fandom" get in the way of analysis.

Maybe Andrew's propensity is to view/report the situation as he sees it but I think he is also a pretty big fan. Ditto Forecheck's MO. Perhaps Anonymous and Bear are saying OK we get it, we are the underdogs but please stop harshing the vibe. Can we agree it would be way cool if the Aeros win but it will require a special effort? For what it's worth, I'm sticking with my original prediction, Aeros pull it off in a seventh game barn burner. Don't you just love playoff hockey?

Truth be told, my vibe was so harsh, Andrew's post actually improved it.

Playoff hockey IS awesome. Wish this game wasn't conflicting with Pens/Caps...

Rob said...

That's my girl. We could feel you holding back.

I'm going with the Pens/Caps. Too nervous to watch our boys. Will read about it early tomorrow. Whatever the outcome, break it to me gently please.

Fred Trask said...

Oh man Rob, that's harsh. come on, a big fan like you goes to or watches the game even if their eyes are peeking through fingers :)

The guys CAN do it but I don't know if they will.

Go Aeros!
Go Caps!

Tomorrow
Go Bruins!
Go Wings

And NHL you should be ashamed for having games overlap on the same network. There are two freaking game 7's tomorrow night and you can't watch both.

Forecheck said...

Fred -

You don't seem to understand - there is no way in a just world we can allow either the Red Wings or Alex Ovechkin to win the Stanley Cup!

Fred Trask said...

Ha!

Cindy Crysby never winning a SC is fine by me but Alex should. And the Wings are the Wings. Class organization period.

But let the Bruins win it, I'm fine with that.

Rob said...

Sorry Fred, I'm a gutless wonder. Nothing against our guys. We'll do it. Just can't watch the game if not in person. Doesn't matter what sport or team, never have been able to watch a big close to my heart type game on the tube. Gotta go fiddle in the kitchen or walk the dog or like tonight watch an NHL game that should be very good hockey but in the long run doesn't really mean much to me. Go Aeros!

Glad we're pulling for all the same teams.

Fred Trask said...

Well Rob, I guess a man's got to know his limitations :)

At least you'll be sending good karma to the Bomber Boys.

It's REALLY tough when your team ends its season on the road, be it a loss or a championship.

Me, I gotta watch no matter what but I respect your situation.

Andrew may be a big fan but at least show a little bit of " They can do it " attitude. Or maybe even a " glimmer of hope ". Or how about a " wish the best ". Spin a tad bit of optimism in it. Even a "cross your fingers" remark. Don't count them out before the game even starts. (Do you think the Aeros are fans of Andrew?) Negative people suck... sorry but its true.

Forecheck said...

I didn't think Andrew was at all negative.

Just because you are not all "rah, rah, go team" doesn't mean you are one bit negative. It might just mean you are a realist.

In terms of the team, the nead to find a reason to win from within themselves.

Forecheck said...

Fred -

I'm no fan on Cindy, but Ovechkin is worse - - - as Don Cherry said, "Kid, have some class". Of course, that is the pot calling the ketlle black.....

Fred Trask said...

Disagree 100%

AO is good for hockey. A great player just a little too young and excitable.

I'd like Cindy more if there were not such a promotional drive to shove him down my throat. And if he'd man up and stop with the bush league stuff.

I haven't heard any admissions of being wrong from any of these post-ers....Andrew, Forecheck ???
