If you're in Houston, you know we're being besieged by Swine Flu hysteria. The Chron is basically telling us we're all about to die. Schools are closing left and right. And high school sporting events are being cancelled.
With that in mind, I contacted Jamie Spencer, the Executive Vice President of Business Operations, Houston Aeros, to see if the team has been contacted by the state or Toyota Center regarding next week's games. He sent me this link to a story in SI.com regarding the Houston Rockets and a statement from the Houston Rockets, and he further informed me that the Aeros and Toyota Center "are doing everything we can to monitor the situation and create a safe environment for fans to enjoy events this week."
In short, everything is still go, but if you're one of those types being swept up by what is possibly shaping up to be overblown hysteria, then rest assured that the team and Toyota Center are looking after your interests. And for the rest of us, it looks like, unless something drastic happens this weekend, that there will be playoff hockey in Houston next week.

wear your goalie masks, which would be about as effective as the paper things people are donning albeit much more attractive ;) - viruses are such small particles they slide through everything meshy. Kinda like THAT puck in Game 7 :)!
my daughter's school has been closed for the next two weeks!!! I think that's crazy. We'll be there as long as we're allowed in. Sadly, I don't think the toybox will be packed enough to make it a really high risk situation anyway.
Now John, you're letting common sense get in they way. Forget the fact that no adult in Harris County has contracted Swine Flu, and the child who died was a Mexican national. If we don't overblow this situation and panic everyone, then we can't champion the government as the savior when this all blows over and no more people die from Swine Flu than the common flus.

The news media have to create panic in order to get their ratings up......
CDC reported that this strain of flu is very moderate at this time.
I agree that all the school closings and UIL curtailing sports activities is ridiculous, but no one asked for my opinion.
