1/9/11 -- Aeros v. Rampage -- Some Photos and Notes

I don't have a lot of time at the moment -- I've got real work stuff to handle -- so I'll try to throw up some quotes and notes later today. As it is, all that really needs to be known is that San Antonio got the 1-0 lead in the first, but Kris Fredheim tied it about 30 seconds later.

Jean-Michel Daoust got the game winner later in the third, and Colton Gillies got an empty-netter to seal the 3-1 win. Matt Hackett, after getting pulled early last night for allowing four goals, was solid tonight in the win.

The really interesting thing to note is that Hackett wasn't supposed to start tonight. Mike Yeo was going to start Josh Tordjman, but Hackett came to Yeo a couple of hours before the game and said that he really wanted to go tonight, so Yeo let him go. I think that worked out rather well.

The three stars were 3. Fredheim, 2. Hackett, and 1. Daoust.

Now for some photos.

There's nothing special, gamewise, about this photo with Carson McMillan in a face-off. I just like it.

This is Fredheim's goal in the first. If you click on the photo, you should be able to see the puck right at the top of Ortmeyer's stick and behind Montoya.

This is Daoust's game-winner.

Matt Kassian congratulates Hackett after a great game.

And the star of the game, Jean-Michel Daoust.

 There was, understandably, no blog about Saturday night’s game. I assume I am like most people in that I turned the silly thing off less than half-way through. I do want to offer a title for the non-existant blog - “Aeros vs. Rampage : The Roll Over and Play Dead Edition”.

 Tonight’s game was played smartly by both teams. I thought in the third it was only a matter of time before the Rampage scored as the Aeros were looking gassed. But the broadcast time out couldn’t have come at a better time. The Aeros seem to have caught their second wind during that T.O. In fact, they were nearly swarming on offense for a bit.

 I have to take back the previous point a bit. MacLean’s late third period penalty was just plain dumb, dumb, dumb all the way.

 This was an important win. The team is now at 0.500 (or maybe better phrased “50%”) with 21 wins in 42 games. Taking out the bad start, 19 wins in 34 games, 56% …. headed for 90 points… just barely good enough by 1/64th of an inch to make the playoffs – hopefully.

Word verification : Arostr, as in all three strs of the game were once again Aros.

Hey, once again I hate to be off topic, but does anyone know where I can get one of our "3rd" jerseys, and if they have a different name that would be cool to know too, now an attempt to be on topic, it's nice to see we have San Antonio's number, at least at home, they're always exciting games and because they're usually on Friday and Saturday nights, which usually means seats are filled, which means more Aeros fans.

Maybe you can try the merchandise folks. I have no other idea of how to get a version of that third jersey.

Can't even find one on ebay, they're pretty sharp, must be a hot item.
