Well here's some good news for the weekend. We're being told that Casey Wellman has been reassigned to the team. So while there's no help for the defense, Wellman's return would be a nice step to strengthing the lines and bringing some scoring punch.

So, is this the end of the ECHL line?
Great news about the return of (hypo-hat-trick) Casey Wellman.
When is the Triumvirate going to weigh in on the "major issue of hockey", most recently sparked by the concussion-vertebra injury to Pacioretty, compliments of Boston's Charra???
Go Aeros!
ICEVET,
So nice to hear from you again.
Here is my take on the situation:
There is no way for me to know whether or not Chara did what he did with the intent to injure.
It may look that way to some, but in my opinion, they need to figure out something new for the placement of that death trap that Pacioretty ran in to.
Hockey is the most intense, competitive down to the last minute sport, and there are going to be more injuries because of it.
Those guys are among the greatest athletes in the world, and they go out there knowing, deep-down, that something crazy like that can happen at any time.
As for the incident in question, again, since there is no way to really know if there was intent to injure, I cannot say the non-penalty was or was not justified.
That is just my opinion.
I agree that part of the rink needs to be re-designed. It's an accident waiting to happen. (How about a curved transition piece?)
As far as the ruling is concerned, that part of the rink is treated no differently according to the rules. The call would (should) be the same if it happened in the corners or along half-boards. The ref's call was appropriate. A five minute major and a game misconduct for boarding.
Now, one can argue, as I would, that the rules should be changed to take into account the dangerous nature of that small part of the rink. Also, the rules for suspensions do not take into account the extent of the injury inflicted. Should they? I don't know. Should Chara be required to miss as many games as Pacioretty? Probably not, since Chara was not in complete control of the situation.
