This is how it usually goes on kids day:
Kids scream before the game
Kids scream when the Aeros score a goal.
Kids boo when the other team scores a goal.
Kids REALLY scream with there is a fight.
Kids start leaving at the beginning of the third period.
Most of that proved true Thursday, except one ... minor ... change.
This year, the Aeros' left the game before the kids did.
After scoring three straight goals against a team that had lost 11 of its last 12 games, the Aeros (their defense pictured above) looked like the division doormat and allowed six straight goals en route to a 6-3 loss in front of all those innocent little schoolkids.
I don't have a lot of time to write right now, but I will throw up a few points here for further discussion, and Heather's take is already on the blog right below this one.
- The Aeros could/should have led 2-0 after first period.
- The Daoust goal was a beauty.
- The Aeros just turned the puck over.
- Then the lights went out.
- The Aeros just turned over the puck again.
- Anton has struggled MIGHTLY in the second period at home this year.
- I felt bad for Dubielewicz on their sixth goal. Hoggan fanned on the wrister, Dubie froze, and then Hoggan buried attempt No. 2.
- The Aeros just turned over the puck.
- See a pattern?
- Kalus left the game in the first period and did not return. Post game diagnosis? Possible concussion, per Kevin Constantine.
- The Toyota Center ran out of cotton candy.
- Andy Hilbert looked good in his return from a knee injury. He missed every game in November.
- The Aeros just turned over ... nevermind.
As I was waiting to talk to Jeff this afternoon, I overheard the post-game "at a boys" from the Rampage coaches. This was a big win for that team, and they know it. And they know they have all the momentum in the world heading into tomorrow night. Even though they did not say so directly, they know the Aeros will have a very hard time competing tomorrow night.
Tomorrow is a guaranteed loss, and with six days off until their next game against Peoria, I think the losing streak goes to three before they win again on 12/13.
I asked Hoggan what was said on the bench after the Aeros went up big and Ray Edwards called the timeout. After pointing out that any team would have called a timeout right there, this is what he said.
"We just needed a little break there to re-focus. We had a couple of bad turnovers there. But we got a quick one right after that and bang, bang, bang, it was 3-3 before you knew it. We had the momentum and went from there"
Bang, bang, bang is right, and that is probably how it is going to go Friday night at AT&T Center.

I can't remember the Aeros playing this badly. It's like they were tripping or something. I left after the SA shortie, and I NEVER leave early. "Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" should have been playing during the breaks in action.
Turnover..better cover over, eh? Let's be charitable (the word) some of us are NOT early bids, but night owls; methinks Anton may be one of us! and so might be others. What will they do in SA tomorrow, maybe the predicted snow 'flying' will animate those Canadian guys to flurries of goals!
Turover Fest? Oh no, not another theme night!
Were they handing out chess boards?
If the Aeros have any (ahems), they will come out Friday night and kick SA butt. If they don't have any, then they will play like a whipped puppy dog with their tails between their legs - In other words, like they played the second half of this game.

Well, it wasn't as bad as Andrew feared and not as good as I had hoped. I liked the way they fought back to tie, but the game winner in OT looked like it might have been a bit ugly (thanks to aHLlive, I didn't actually see it very well).
