The Dallas Stars made it official today. Dave Tippett has been fired, and his replacement is Marc Crawford, former coach of the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, and Los Angeles Kings.
New Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said he was brought in to making some sweeping changes and move the team in a new direction. Keeping Tippet would have made for an incremental change, at best. And as for why the team refused to confirm the firing yesterday, when it was first reported by TSN, you can blame Tippett. He asked the team to hold off the announcement for a day, and the team honored his request.

I can't stand Crawford's way of dealing with players. I wouldn't even think of signing to a Crawford coached team.
Glad I'm not REALLY a Stars fan (just like a few players like Morrow and Turco), otherwise, I'd be sorely disappointed.
As a Stars fan, Nieuwendyk is off to a terrible start. Fire a great coach for losing one seaosn and replace him with another coach fired for losing. Brilliant idea, Joe. Keep it up and the EEC might eventually get off flat-line.
Maybe you should straighten out your back-up goaltending situation first.
Anyway, what makes people think that just because a guy was a great player makes him GM material? What has he managed before? Nothing.
