UPDATE - Mara in tonight, and Bulmer/Foucault likely to return from injuries

Good morning everyone; it's game day, so I thought I would move this up a bit for those of you who want to discuss tonight's matchup against Texas. Starting a 3-in-3 on the road, I think, is the way to go. Win, and the team is set up nicely for a successful weekend. Especially with the last two games at home, where the Aeros have played very well since Thanksgiving.

Lose, and it's still not so bad. You have two home games to make up some ground and still grind out a marginally successful weekend. There is no science to this, but that is just my thoughts after covering so many three in threes over the years.

First, some news. NHL Defenseman Paul Mara. who spent all of this year in the ECHL will suit up for the Aeros. With the injury to Bagnall last weekend, the Aeros needed some veteran stability, and they found just that in Mara. Kudos to Mills and the brass for getting this done, especially during a week where SO many other ECHL guys were called up to the AHL.

Now for some breaking news: Brett Bulmer (knee) and Kris Foucault (undisclosed) will return to the lineup tonight, barring the unforeseen. Bulmer has been out since Nov. 25 against Abbotsford, and Foucault has not played since Dec. 11. Don't expect lighting this weekend - these guys have been out for awhile. But it is nice to take a couple of players off "The Disabled  List" there to your right ------------------->

That is all I got for now; enjoy the game and safe travels if you are going. Otherwise, have fun at the Toyota Center this weekend as the Aeros take on the Lake Erie Monsters and Charlotte Checkers.

ABOUT THE AEROS
Against Texas: 4-2-1-0
Streak: 1-0-1-0
Road record: 6-6-2-1

Special teams: PP 3RD (21.1%) PK 28th (79.2%)
Points leader: Jason Zucker (15 G, 17 A, 32 P in 31 GP)

Notable: The Aeros will officially kick-start life without Mikael Granlund on Friday in a rematch of last Sunday's 4-3 OT loss to Texas. In that game, the Aeros scored first, but needed a power play goal in the third period just to earn a point in the standings ... There is no question the Aeros are slow starters. This season, they have been out-shot 340-310 in the first period, but they are even in scoring at 31 all in the first period. When they score first, they are third in the AHL with an 85 percent winning percentage ... We have added an injury tracker to the blog, called The Disabled List. You can find it on the right side under our Twitter feed. We'll keep this up to date as information becomes available to us.

ABOUT THE STARS
Against Houston: 3-2-2-0
Streak: 3-0-0-0
Home record: 9-6-2-1

Special teams: PP 10th (18.0%) PK 29th (78.9%)
Points leader: Cody Eakin (11 G, 12 A, 23 P in 34 GP)

Notable: The Stars have won two straight in the season series and have points in five overall (3-1-1-0) since the Aeros opened back-to-back wins against Texas ... Now that the lockout is over, Texas will lose Tomas Vincour and Cody Eakin, and Reilly Smith could get a look in the Big D, too ... Like Houston, the Stars seem to start slow and then heat up as the game wears on. They have been outscored 34-25 in the first period this season ... Texas has been the best team in the division since mid November. After losing six of nine to start the season, the Stars are 16-5-3-2 ... After hosting Houston and San Antonio this weekend, the Stars will play seven of their next eight games on the road.

When are the NHL camps to start?

As far as I know, the agreement is still unsigned.

Sunday. Apparently getting 750 players to read/understand agreement takes more than a couple of days. :)

The signing or camps are Sunday.

Taking that long to read and understand the agreement? It's not like these guys get hit in the head or anything....oops!

Finish signing Saturday. Flurry of free agent signings immediately after. Camps "no later than" Sunday, i believe, so I guess they could start as soon as the players ratify.

When your PK sucks and you nearly get blown out - - what then?

That was the worst game of the season, no question. Good news is there is no way they play that bad tonight.

What is concerning is WHY they played like that against the team directly ahead of them in the standings. That is three straight losses to Texas.

We'll see how they respond tonight. San Antonio played like this Thursday, paid for it and rebounded with a big win on Friday.

I liked Mara this weekend. He runs over people. Haven't had someone like that since Boogey. Too bad Mara's facing six games for the fight Sunday (coming off the bench).
